These are the days...

of owning personal responsibility

of not letting fear overcome your ability to risk, love, do, create and breathe

of showing gratitude for what you have, where you have come from, and where you plan to go

of dreaming the big dreams

of loving just a little bit more

and crying just a little bit louder

and praying
for yourself, your family, the world, our government and our nation

of asking for impossible things
like world peace, and justice, and a break for the underdog, more love, less war, more community, less hate, food for all, water for all, saving the planet, and saving ourselves

these are the days to breathe in, and get up, and take one more step... even though you are so very tired and it seems so utterly impossible and it looks so utterly improbable

all change starts within and ripples out into this world

have gratitude for those that make waves

have gratitude to be here and be alive so that you can choose differently starting right now

Brainwaves

There is so much interesting research I have been reading lately about how the brain works... Someday I will put it all down in here but for today we will focus on brainwaves.

In a recent post and promotion I put out that Reflexology effects your brainwave activity, helping you to relax deeper and heal faster. Here is what happens at each of the 4 levels.

Beta: Fastest and shortest of the brainwaves and is our normal everyday waking state. Unfortunately for us these brain waves are not very useful for deep learning, comprehension or imprinting. Gamma waves are sometimes included in this category. According to some research gamma waves are emitted when we are making new neural connections or pathways. Tibetan meditators emit a flood of gamma waves.

Alpha: Slower and longer waves alpha waves are associated with relaxation, deep learning, focus, light trances, serotonin increases, presleep or prewaking drowsiness, intuitive factors, meditation and access to the unconscious mind and the quantum field. Magic starts here.

(it is very easy to access alpha patterns in a reflexology session)

Theta: Associated with dreaming sleep (REM), increased creativity, ability to tap into universal intelligence, changes in behavior, integrative emotional experiences, increased retention of learning material and the production of catecholamines (vital for learning and memory). This is the level where things get interesting access to intuition and the quantum field are highly available here.

This is the session where the problem that has been nagging you get solved because as you allow yourself to drift into this space the solution will often "pop" in waking you up with your "AH HA" moment.

Delta: These are slow, very long brainwaves associated with dreamless sleep, the release of human growth hormone and deep, deep healing. People who meditate a lot can access delta brainwaves in the awakened state. Those are some amazing mellow people.

People with training in meditation can access delta brainwaves pretty easily in a reflexology session. Others can definitely get there after a few sessions.

So there is your science lesson for the day. The advantages of moving yourself out of short fast brainwaves is that you are calmer, more focused, and able to retain information.

Meditation daily even for 5-10 minutes will dramatically change your perspective and your ability to tackle any situation.

Reflexology Awareness Week!

This week I am offering up some deals on multiple sessions of reflexology.

2 sessions for $125
5 sessions for $325

Why book more than one session?
Here are some of the benefits of reflexology: stress reduction, revitalizes energy, enhances circulation helping to lower blood pressure, helps body release toxins stored, stimulates creativity and productivity.

Hopefully the benefits speak for themselves as to why you'd want to come back, for more, and more and more.

How often should I get Reflexology?
Ideally you would get reflexology every week to every other week as most peoples lives tend to be very stressful. Since time and finances might not be available for that frequency I recommend getting a session every 4 to 6 weeks. This gives your body a chance to recoup from stress, start rebuilding any damage that has occurred and rest deeply.

Does this really work?
Well that depends... if you are highly skeptical about the ability of having your back healed by working on your foot, then you are most likely not going to have a very dramatic healing experience.

I like to believe in magic but I have to admit that when something "works" and is suddenly different after a session I am always impressed. So, as with all alternative medicines, Reflexology take a bit of faith, however there is tons of research if you want it.

I believe Reflexology's biggest strength is it's ability to allow deep relaxation, which puts the body is a position to heal itself. Your body knows exactly what is off and if you just give it the proper space, relaxation and fuel it will carry you far. I'd say that's worth $75 bucks a month.

If you could only name one benefit to coming more often, what would it be?
Allowing the body the time and space to relax. Accessing this state through Reflexology will help you achieve it faster at home in meditation, when sleeping, and in stressful situations. So in a sense Reflexology trains you to be able to access deep states of calm more easily. Pretty soon you won't need Reflexology anymore, you'll just want it cause it feels so good.

please remember to breathe

i had a email from my dearest friend in new zealand today which made me have a wee bit of depression. she is thinking of moving flat but is worried about things, one of them being the idea of a certain white man as president who then croaks and what do we have left.

it made me do some research on her. and then it made me depressed. and then it made me realize part of the problem is as a nation we seem to be holding our collective breath.

lots of us are feeling compelled to act but have no idea what to act on. everyone is committed but doesn't want to commit and the east coast gets battered by storms and the west coast gets little earthquakes and holy shit.

i think the best think i can do right now it to remind people to breath. inhale and exhale. it will do us no good to arrive at november 4th blue in the face and so forgetful from asphyxiation we forgot to vote.

and stop waiting for it to come. visualize the ideal outcome, whatever yours is... and breathe into it. give it energy and light and love and it will help it come to manifestation.

you must be breathing, especially as we are about to enter a period of mercury in retrograde. if you aren't getting enough oxygen in those three weeks they are going to be some miserable days to suffer through.

in light and love i pray we are ready to embrace our potential as a community and a country.

Raspberry Scones

The last tarot class I made these and Tido the fabulous puppy has asked for the recipe.

2 cups unbleached flour
1/3 cup sugar plus a bit for top
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 teaspoons lemon zest
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter cut into bits
1 large egg
1/2 cup heavy cream plus a bit to glaze
1 teaspoon almond extract
3/4 cup fresh or frozen raspberries (can use other fruit of choice)

*Preheat oven to 400 lightly butter baking sheet or use a pizza stone
*Mix dry ingredients well then add butter and combine until butter is no longer in clumps. The book says use 2 knives I just use my well washed hands to crumble it all together.
*place egg, cream and almond extract in a bowl, whisk then combine with dry ingredients
* turn out dough onto lightly floured work surface and knead lightly, gently fold in raspberries at this time
*form scones into one or two mounds place on baking sheet, cut with knife but do not separate.
*brush lightly with cream and sprinkle with sugar
*bake until golden brown about 15-20 minutes
*let cool 10 minutes, re-cut then serve

Enjoy !
